Volvo S80 engine has been idling high
A Volvo S80 with mileage over 340,000 km, engine B5254T2, transmission model AW50/51, the car engine has been idling high.
Troubleshooting: test the car, the engine has been high idle, keep on 1400r/min or so, the phenomenon is validated. Connect VOLVO VIDA read fault codes, display the throttle valve failure. The reasons for this failure are the following possibilities:
(1) Throttle dirty.
(2) Throttle damage.
(3) throttle wiring harness problem.
(4) Engine (ECM) damage.
First remove the throttle to check, found is very dirty, after cleaned use VOLVO VIDA dice read the fault code, still is throttle valve failure. Then use multimeter measure the resistance value of the throttle.
# 1- # 4 resistance value 1.4Ω (normal standard 1.2 ~ 3.5Ω).
# 2 – # 3 resistance value 1368Ω (standard 1000 ~ 1500Ω).
# 2 – # 6 when the throttle is closed about 820Ω. When open throttle is about 1580Ω.
# 2 – # 5 when the throttle is closed about 1480Ω. When open throttle is about 500Ω.
Measurement results are within the normal range, so that can exclude the above two possible reasons. Find the circuit diagram of the throttle from vida dice, measured the line.
Measured the line between the throttle plug and the engine control module (ECM) whether conduction. The results is six lines all conduction, that means the line is no problem.
Then use multimeter voltage block to measure the 3rd terminal of throttle plug, have 5V voltage, the voltage is normal. Then make the multimeter black pen connect 2nd grounding, also have 5V voltage, grounding also normal. Connect the throttle plug and the throttle, and tie pin on 5th and 6th terminal harness, ignition key to open the II block, slowly depress the accelerator pedal, the 5th and the 6th terminals should have voltage change.
6th terminal is throttle unit signal potentiometer as 1, the voltage with the position of the throttle increases, the voltage will be 0.4 ~ 4V, the 5th terminal opposite. Measure result is normal. Power and grounding on the throttle plug are normal, 1st and 4th terminal is pulse signal, can’t measure with multimeter.
ECM module generally not easily damaged, so think is no problem. Only first check the harness of the throttle. Found the harness of the throttle plug have tape around, like someone do it. Remove the tape, found the two harness is directly intertwined, most likely the two harness with the engine temperature rises and bumps, causing the harness resistance increases, resulting difference signal, caused the engine in high idle speed.
Troubleshooting: Re-welding two line test, idling normal, read volvo vida dice fault codes, no the throttle valve failure, solve this problem.
